Exclamation

...my whole area is dotted with retired Nike missile bases.

...it was years before anyone even realized they were there. Most only found out after they were abandoned.

...there's one only about 5 minutes away from the shop in Bloomingdale.

...do a google search on Nike and Ajax missiles if you want to see some interesting stuff.

...well, now, laddie...that's a good question. the Cuban Missile Crisis. Yes, yes, I remember it well. One Saturday, early on in the Crisis, or "Commie Menace" as we used to call it, I had to go into town to buy a new horse. I had to walk, obviously, due to the fact that I had no horse, which was why I was going to town...

    To buy one.

    A horse.

    You understand?

So, I walked to town that Saturday during the Commie Menace, and it was a long walk! Fifteen miles in snow under a hot July sun! Ay-yuh. I remember it well, slogging through the drifts, wiping the sweat from my brow...at one point in the journey, I had to cross through the Western Woods, which everyone avoided due to its being full of sprites, spirits and various and sundry other undesirable pagan types of things. Yet I had no choice but to go through, for I had to get to town. To buy a horse. During the Commie Menace.

Now something you young folks should understand about those days during the Commie Menace: The weather was really weird.

    Wait...

    ...yes...

    ...but no.

I meant to say, PANTHERS! The woods was full of panthers. Big, black panthers who would tear your heart out rather than look at you! Oh, they cut quite the formidable figure with their glaring eyes and jaunty berets...

    ...wait...

Well, in any case, I eventually bought my horse in exchange for a pocket full of magic beans. The seller was a simple lad, but well-intentioned. That, however, is a whole other story...

I just remember the term "Missile Crisis" coming up a lot in my toy universe. Almost all of my Hotwheels could fly (thanks to patented technology called "floatavision"), and they were constantly shooting missiles at each other, and He-Man was always trying to stop them. It was later learned that the Starriors had been pulling the strings all along.
